Why RV Batteries Die in Storage Around Conroe

Plenty of campers around Conroe only move a handful of weekends a year. The rest of the time they sit in a storage yard, quietly draining.

Parasitic loads are real

Propane detectors, radio memory, antenna boosters, and control boards keep pulling small amounts of current around the clock. A healthy pair of lead-acid batteries can be flat in six weeks with nothing switched on.

Disconnect or maintain

Either pull the battery disconnect every time you leave the lot, or put a small solar maintainer on the bank. Lots without power make solar the easy answer, and a 20-watt panel is usually plenty for maintenance duty.

Heat is the other killer

Texas summers cook electrolyte out of flooded batteries. Check water levels every couple of months if your batteries have removable caps.

Lithium changes the math

Lithium banks self-discharge slowly, but they do not like sitting at full charge in the heat. Storing at roughly half charge extends their life considerably.

If your rig cranks the pump and the lights go dim, call before you tow it anywhere — a bad bank can also fool you into thinking the converter has failed.
