Getting Your Rooftop AC Ready for a Lake Conroe Summer

Summer on Lake Conroe is humid, still, and unforgiving on a rooftop air conditioner. Most of the no-cool calls we run in Conroe trace back to three things: a clogged coil, a weak start capacitor, and a filter nobody has touched since the rig was bought.

Start with airflow

Pull the interior return cover and look at the filter. A gray blanket of dust cuts the airflow enough that the coil ices over, and an iced coil feels exactly like a dead compressor from inside the camper. Wash the filter, let it dry fully, and put it back.

Rinse the condenser

On the roof, the outer coil collects pine needles and cottonwood fluff all spring. A gentle rinse from the top down — never a pressure washer — restores a surprising amount of cooling.

Watch the start

If the fan spins but the compressor grunts and quits, that is usually a start capacitor on its way out. It is a small part and a short visit, and replacing it before August beats replacing a compressor after.
